Westward Eden Is Coming Your Way!

Now for the first time at your fingertips, BiGiDiE’s Arts & Entertainment presents a serialization of a complete novel is now at your nearest keyboard.  The novel, Westward Eden,” will be shown on BiGiDiE, in its entirely, in separate installments, on every Sunday.  Here is the book’s jacket description of the novel:

In rural California during the hot Indian summer of 1964, four Chicano teens help Emily Spinoza, a white girl, run away from home amid a time of intense local anti-Mexican sentiment.

At the center of the coming storm is her champion, Marty Montmajour, the Whiz Kid, who is unaware that his Mission of Mercy will turn from an adventure to a life-and-death struggle.

Riding along with the excitement are Marty's comrades. Kenny Oseguera, the babe magnet of the group, that no girl or woman can resist. Maxey Ozuna, the irascible kid of the team, and the hippest, as quick with his wit as with his fist. And there's Adán Gonzales, the "Gnome Eye"—The Evil One. The town rowdies consider him the most dangerous young man alive.

Marty's motive for helping Emily is simply to win her over, not to help her escape from her father. But soon events prove to be more complex than he or his friends have anticipated. The entire journey proves to be a trial of his character, as his shortcomings emerge and the situation comes to test his resolve, and challenge the dedication and courage of his buddies.

Attacked by wild boars and sadistic bullies and dogged by a mob led by Emily's father, our heroes descend into a harrowing climax that no kid in his right mind would have chosen.

It’s a story that is timely today as it was yesterday of 1964.  On each Sunday installments, the reader will experience kids being adventurous.  It isn’t every day that Chicano kids, especially GIFTED Chicano kids, are written about accomplishing a great and noble deed.  The story is not just about growing up but getting along with one another.  It’s a daring trek through the wilds of Sonoma County of generations past, defying the apathy and cynicism that is so common in today’s world.  So, stop what you are doing and read Westward Eden on BiGiDiE’s Arts & Entertainment, starring on August 3rd, 2008.

Eat My Shorts

Eat My Shorts

All I hear from Barack Obama is rhetoric and the candidate's theme word, "change". But I never heard exactly how this supposed "change" is going to occur. I have yet to hear even an utterance that would commence an answer or solution to any one of the United States' teeming problems. Mr. Obama stirs up his crowd into euphoria of high hopes by getting the sideline chant going, "change, change." However, Mr. Obama has failed to even provide us, the people, with the simple first stage(s) of a solution to any one of America's bristling issues.

I believe I know the reason Obama does not want to over reach beyond his catchphrase; that reason being he will end up having to cough up some of his political career's flaws and frailties'. For instance, if Obama actually ever participated in an open public forum, in which the questions won't be rehearsed or censored, he might trip up when asked, why he is leading presidential candidates in the amount of pharmaceutical corporations' campaign contributions; totaling an astounding $639,124.

One such Obama campaign contributor is Pfizer Inc., who is party in numerous lawsuits, including an asbestos litigation. In addition, according to the EPA, Pfizer is a main threat to the health of residents and the environment of the New London area, and has been cited multiple times for toxic dumping into the Thames River.

Obama is also revered by the hopeless American public for being a healer to race relations and disparities in America; however, he seems to forget that he too is a minority, when the issue of immigration is on the table. Viewing the immigration status of Latinos in America as a, "crisis" that "demands we take action." Obama, calls for a "mandatory electronic system that enables employers to verify the legal status of the people they hire." The "race conscious" Obama also feels that the undocumented Latino workers, the exploited and severely underpaid immigrants, should "pay a fine, to have provisional status in this country, and to get into the back of the line for citizenship."

Furthermore, Obama has declined to vote on 65 of the last 100 social/economic issues that have reached the Senate floor, showing his true interest- the big money corporate interests that fund his campaign. When he denied any harsh experiences as a black American in America, he denounced Rev. Wright and the race conflict issues the reverend was stating. Obama again, is appeasing the powers that be and folding under the pressure of corporate money. Thus, is the reason you will not hear a straight forward answer or solution out of Obama; all you will simply hear is his catchphrase, "change."

All Obama has is a campaign catchphrase. But instead of solid answers, the logical truths for this nation's solution, America's skeletons are forced deeper into the closet, to make room for a catchy campaign slogan. A slogan the public is falling for in hopes of covering up this country's historical crimes against humanity; and possibly to cover our own deeply rooted hatreds and preconceived notions, or whatever inner-flaws we shoulder and carry as each individual.

No, "change" is not a promise. It is not even a "maybe." All it is, is a catchphrase, a bumper sticker, so that the public can associate the word, change, and its core-meaning with Obama's face or name, without any proof of or solid answers of striving for change. The catch-phrase like its candidate is empty and without any substance or essence; just a simple ploy.

Well, I know a catch-phrase too Obama..."Eat my Shorts."

Because We're A Just People

Because We're A Just People

Because We’re A Just People

By Armando Gomez

May 23, 2008

How did we get here?  Who is responsible for our “government sponsored” torture?  But the real question is: How was it allowed to continue once it began?  Actually, it began at the inception of our nation.  It began with the “clearing” of the New Land’s original inhabitants when the first Europeans arrived here.  It’s that ancient self-serving attitude of “We’re Number One” that made this country great.  It’s our ruthlessness, our self-determination and our self-delusional and “divine” focus that gave Americans the right to take what they want or worse, to consider what’s before us as “ours.”  Anyone or anything in the way gets rolled over.  This is our history, our American history.  We believe to be a just people but in reality we’re a vengeful and spiteful lot.  With our divine intentions, we have killed our way through history.  We committed genocide against the Native Americans and found it just.  We have abducted others we considered inferior and enslaved them to boot, forcing them to serve “our” needs, to our ends—and again, found it just.  We bragged to the world and history that we are a just nation, through and through.  But we’re quick to forget—or quick to cover-up—the dirty little events of our history.  Slavery and Jim Crow, breaking every treaty we forced down on every Native American and Mexican American we conquered, and breaking the very foundation of laws such as the U.S. Constitution.  We rounded up U.S. citizens and imprisoned them during a time of crisis just because they were of a different color, of a different cultural.  It’s no accident that we elected Ronald Reagan for president, to apply the ointment, to heal our defeat in Vietnam. With Reagan, we allowed ourselves to once again become strong and cruel, but justifiably so.  Since it was fitting, we allowed a stolen election in order to inherit George W. Bush as president—twice.  In him we saw a man we “really” wanted: crude, ruthless and lack of any enlightenment. When we were “attacked” on September 11, 2001, never before did we want to be avenged.  We wanted blood and we weren’t too particular where to “get” it. The whole issue of torture falls naturally into the mix.  So it was natural that when 9/11 arrived—with our full knowledge that President Bush saw it coming—we have welcomed and rejoiced the “torture program.”  This time the denial and the inflicting of pain onto others was truly equitable and we welcomed our complicity—openly!  When Americans became victims in the process, then we say "no more."  Then we “truly” demand justice, because we are a just nation.  Torture is out!  It’s Bush’s fault!  But our collusion in Guantanamo Bay and Abu Ghraid are the latest examples of our righteous nature.  How can we eliminate torture from our experience when it attracts us like a magnet?  By accepting every act of cruelty we visited upon the innocent and the weak in our entire history, as well as our complicity.  Merely saying “no more” no longer suffices.
